World number one tennis player Novak Djokovic is not sure whether he will be able to play for Serbia in their Davis Cup campaign due to the packed schedule in 2012, which is also an Olympic year.
Djokovic had already stated that he would not be available for selection for the first round of Davis Cup matches for Serbia against Sweden that is to be played in the country between the 10th and 12th of February. Djokovic stated that he was extremely sorry that he would not be playing for Serbia against Sweden this weekend and added that he was still unsure whether he would take part in the competition at any time this year.
Djokovic is currently in Serbia, where he has been given a hero’s welcome after overcoming Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the final of the Australian Open in the longest running final in the history of Grand Slams in the Open Era and he is looking forward to some rest before he embarks on another tour.
Novak Djokovic is scheduled to be a part of the star studded lineup that is going to take the field at Indian Wells Tennis Gardens for the Indian Wells ATP Championships scheduled to be held in the first week of March where he will renew his rivalry against Rafael Nadal. Djokovic has already stated that his prime targets for 2012 are the Olympic Games and the French Open, where a win would see him complete the rare Golden Slam of holding all four Grand Slam titles at the same time.
Djokovic also added that he is also unsure whether he would defend his crown at the Serbia Open, which is bad news for home fans who would be looking forward to seeing their hero Novak Djokovic play in front of his home fans.
The world number one Novak Djokovic has revealed that he was plagued not only by a hamstring problem in his quarterfinal match, but also by breathing difficulties. Despite these significant setbacks, he battled through against the tireless David Ferrer to book a place in the semi-finals against fourth seed Andy Murray.
The Serbian looked uncomfortable at times on court, and it occasionally seemed to affect his concentration, but he insists that he will be fully fit in time for the match with Murray.
“I have no concerns of recovering for the next match,” said Novak. “I found it very difficult after a long time to breathe because I felt the whole day my nose was closed a little bit. I just wasn’t able to get enough oxygen.”
This didn’t stop him winning in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 against the Spaniard, whatever problems Djokovic faced on the day. He also paid tribute to his opponent and must be pleased that he managed to find such an impressive level despite his injury worries. “I needed more time, which I didn’t have – but in these conditions, at this stage of the tournament, when you’re playing someone like David, your physical strength and endurance come into question,” said the world number one.

He climbed to the world no. 1 ranking as a result of his multiple victories and set the record for the highest amount of prize money ever won, a staggering 12 million USD.
He finished the year on a high, by claiming the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, held in Abu Dhabi. He defeated the Spaniard, David Ferrer, in the finals. But the road to the finals wasn’t a cakewalk. His semi-final opponent was ex world no. 1, Roger Federer. Novak Djokovic saw off that threat with a straight set victory, winning 6-2, 6-1.
