Novak Djokovic is very close to becoming the no. 1 player in the world again. If he gets better of his arch rival Rafael Nadal in the final of the French Open tomorrow, he would make his way to the top of the world rankings.
It isn’t as easy as it sounds. Nadal is a very strong clay court player and to beat him on that surface is one hell of a task for anybody, be it Djokovic or somebody else. But, the way the Serbian superstar talked in his interview after the match against Ernests Gulbis the other day, it seems he is up for the challenge.
After beating Gulbis in the semi final, Djokovic said, “I am not going to do anything different against Nadal. I would just try and play attacking brand of tennis. I have defeated him a few times in the recent past. So, I am confident about my chances in this game as well.”
“It would be far from being easy though. Everybody knows what kind of a player he is especially on this sort of surface, but, he can be defeated as we have seen off late.”
The conditions were very difficult during Djokovic’s match against Gulbis. The temperature was very high and it was a challenge for both the players to maintain their fitness right through.
When asked how his body was, Djokovic said, “I am feeling alright, a bit of weariness, but, that was bound to happen because of the extremely hot weather today. Now, I am not going to waste that much energy before the next match. I want to have a good day of rest so that I get freshen up for the all important final.”
Djokovic has not won a French Open singles title in his career so far.

Novak Djokovic is not concerned about the way his season has started. He has the belief that he is capable enough to pull things back and make this season a fantastic one for him.
Djokovic who is the second ranked player in the world at the moment had been winning the Australian Open since the last three seasons and he was the hot favourite to do that once again this season, but, he couldn’t do so as he lost to Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarter finals.
According to the 26 years old Serbian player, it would have been wonderful to win the Australian Open for the 4th time successively, but, not winning there has not got him demoralized at all. He is up for the upcoming challenges.
Talking to the reporters yesterday, Djokovic said, “There is no doubt about the fact that when you win a tournament early on in the season, it gives you a lot of confidence and that reflects in the way you play in the following events. So, I would have liked to have that momentum again, but, still, I am quite confident.”
“When the results don’t go your way, it’s important to put in hard yards and keep believing and that’s what I am trying to do. Hopefully, the coming weeks will be great for me.”
This is probably Djokovic’s worst start to the season in the recent times. But, one must also consider the fact that he has suffered his two defeats this year against two top quality players.
Also, neither of those defeats were the comprehensive ones. If the Serb had not lost points during key moments, he might have won both those matches. So, it can’t be said that he has been in poor form.
