Novak Djokovic had some very nice things to say about Tim Smyczek who showed great sportsmanship while facing Rafael Nadal in round no. 2 of the Australian Open.
That match between Smyczek and Nadal was hanging in balance in the 5th set and either of the two players could have won it. Each moment was crucial at that very time.
In one of the games of that decider, Nadal was serving and he faulted his first serve. But, that happened because of the yelling of one of the spectators sitting there watching the game and Smyczek realized it.
The 27-year old player from America immediately asked his Spanish opponent to have a go at that serve again which was a fantastic gesture and everyone welcomed that with a huge round of applause. Read more »

It was an easy run for Novak Djokovic in the Doha tournament earlier today as he surged past his compatriot Dusan Lajovic to enter Round no. 2.
The top ranked player in the world secured a straight set win, losing just three games in the whole contest.
It was a display of total domination by Djokovic.
Some sort of illness had forced Djokovic not to participate in the title round game there in Emirates a few days ago, but, watching him play against Lajovic, one could easily assume that he was fit and ready for the forthcoming hard court tournaments including the Australian Open.
Djokovic had to take Murray on in the final in Emirates, but, since, he pulled himself out; the Scot was declared the champion there without the match being organized.
Djokovic has probably been the most dominant male tennis player on the hard courts in the recent times.
He has won the Australian Open Singles tournament 4 times and it’s not only the Australian Open, his performance in other hard court tournament too has been brilliant.
In the previous season though, Djokovic could not win the Australian Open. His campaign was, surprisingly, ended in the Round of 8 by the Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka who, later, went on to win the tournament as well.
The Serb would definitely want to get his crown back there in Melbourne, but, it is not going to come easy for him at all.
Meanwhile, as far as this Doha tournament is concerned, it’s Sergiy Stakhovsky whom Djokovic would be facing in the next match.
Stakhovsky, who is from Ukraine, is ranked 62nd in the world and thus, Djokovic should steamroll over him quite easily with the form he seems to be in.
However, an upset has already happened in Doha with Rafael Nadal getting beaten by a qualifying player. So, it’s hard to make a prediction about any match.

Now that Novak Djokovic has become the winner of the BNP Paribas Open, he can feel a little secured about his World no. 1 status.
He has 1310-point advantage over the second ranked Federer and it seems almost impossible for the Swiss maestro to overcome that by the end of the ongoing season.
Coming into this week, Djokovic’s position at the top of the rankings was well and truly in danger. If he had been knocked out early from Paris and Federer had gone on to lift the trophy, the Serb would have slipped down to no. 2, but, it wasn’t to be.
It actually happened the other way around. It’s Federer who lost it in the Round of 8, while, Djokovic, on the other hand, won the title for the second consecutive time in the French capital to put himself forward as the hot favourite for the season ending tournament i.e. the tour Finals.
The BNP Paribas Masters was the first competition which Djokovic was taking part in after becoming father.
He had not been in the scene for a few weeks as he was there with his better half at home. So, it was believed that because of being short of practice, he might struggle a little bit to start with in Paris. But, he was at his fluent best straightaway and his dominance over the other players can be understood by the fact that nobody was able to win a set against him during the whole tournament.
The records absolutely tumble for Djokovic during the final match yesterday. By winning that match, he took his total victory count on the tour to 600 and also, took his Masters Title count to 20. These are fantastic numbers for somebody who is still only 26 years of age.
