NOVAK RULED OUT

World number one tennis player Novak Djokovic will not be a part of the Davis Cup tie for Serbia against Czech Republic that is slated to be held between the 6th and 8th of April, according to an announcement in the official website of the Davis Cup. Although it was not revealed why The Djoker will not be a part of the 2010 Champions’ team for the tie, it is being believed that Djokovic has himself withdrawn from the tie owing to fatigue and to freshen himself up ahead of the grueling clay court season that culminates with the French Open.

The Serbian captain Bogdan Obradovic has picked Viktor Troicki, Nenad Zimonjic, Dusan Lajovic and world number 9 Janko Tipsarevic for the Davis Cup Quarter Final tie against Czech Republic. Novak Djokovic, who has been constantly playing on Tour, could do with a break from playing tennis for the time being, no matter how short it is. He is currently in Miami, playing in the Miami Masters or the Sony Ericsson open where he is to face Andy Murray in the Final.

However, the Czech team is not yet convinced that Djokovic will not be a part of the tie as according to their official Facebook site, the captain of the team Jaroslav Navratil stated that this could be a cunning move from the side of the Serbs as it is not mandatory to officially announce the team until the draw, which takes place on the eve of the first rubber.

No matter how convinced the Czechs are that this is a ploy by the Serbians to disrupt their preparations, it is hard to believe that the Serbs would resort to such things and that too, with the world number one player Novak Djokovic at the centre of it all.

2011 WAS A GREAT YEAR FOR NOVAK

2011 was a fantastic year for tennis fans, and especially for Novak Djokovic. He won a total of 10 tournaments, which included Grand Slam victories at the Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon. He was named the Player of the Year by ITF and was hailed by tennis greats such as Boris Becker and Pete Sampras.

He climbed to the world no. 1 ranking as a result of his multiple victories and set the record for the highest amount of prize money ever won, a staggering 12 million USD.

He finished the year on a high, by claiming the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, held in Abu Dhabi. He defeated the Spaniard, David Ferrer, in the finals. But the road to the finals wasn’t a cakewalk. His semi-final opponent was ex world no. 1, Roger Federer. Novak Djokovic saw off that threat with a straight set victory, winning 6-2, 6-1.

This just goes to show the level of tennis that Djokovic is playing nowadays. Djokovic continued his stellar performance by crushing the world no. 5, Ferrer, by the same score. Defeating two world class players in consecutive matches in straight sets is no mean feat.
