BORIS BECKER AND NOVAK DJOKOVIC PART WAYS

Novak Djokovic announced his split from Boris Becker on Tuesday evening, via a statement on both his website and his Facebook page.

He recounted that “the goals we set when we started working together have been completely fulfilled, and I want to thank him for the cooperation, teamwork, dedication and commitment.”

Initially Becker’s response seemed calculated with a tweet thanking the Serbian with his crowning achievement this year in winning Roland Garros for the first time, and thus completing a career slam.

Becker later on disclosed that coaching the 12-time grand-slam champion had become more challenging. He blamed their split on claims that Djokovic had not been practicing hard enough over the past six months. Becker also lamented that after achieving his goal of winning the French Open, Djokovic’s focus seemed to have wavered.

The Serbian star and coach ended a three years partnership that produced six grand-slam titles. Under Becker’s watch, Djokovic doubled his tally of majors to 12, while victory in this year’s French Open saw the 29-year-old complete a career Grand Slam and hold all four of his sport’s premier singles titles at once.

Unfortunately, Djokovic lost form in the last six month yielding the ATP singles top ranking to Andy Murray. Speaking to Sky Sports on their split, Becker explained the reason for the split. Read more »

Easy run for Novak Djokovic in Doha Tournament

It was an easy run for Novak Djokovic in the Doha tournament earlier today as he surged past his compatriot Dusan Lajovic to enter Round no. 2.

The top ranked player in the world secured a straight set win, losing just three games in the whole contest.

It was a display of total domination by Djokovic.

Some sort of illness had forced Djokovic not to participate in the title round game there in Emirates a few days ago, but, watching him play against Lajovic, one could easily assume that he was fit and ready for the forthcoming hard court tournaments including the Australian Open.

Djokovic had to take Murray on in the final in Emirates, but, since, he pulled himself out; the Scot was declared the champion there without the match being organized.

Djokovic has probably been the most dominant male tennis player on the hard courts in the recent times.

He has won the Australian Open Singles tournament 4 times and it’s not only the Australian Open, his performance in other hard court tournament too has been brilliant.

In the previous season though, Djokovic could not win the Australian Open. His campaign was, surprisingly, ended in the Round of 8 by the Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka who, later, went on to win the tournament as well.

The Serb would definitely want to get his crown back there in Melbourne, but, it is not going to come easy for him at all.

Meanwhile, as far as this Doha tournament is concerned, it’s Sergiy Stakhovsky whom Djokovic would be facing in the next match.

Stakhovsky, who is from Ukraine, is ranked 62nd in the world and thus, Djokovic should steamroll over him quite easily with the form he seems to be in.

However, an upset has already happened in Doha with Rafael Nadal getting beaten by a qualifying player. So, it’s hard to make a prediction about any match.
